This past weekend felt like a gift.

With the Family Day long weekend and Valentine’s Day falling together, it created a rare pocket of time — one that felt slower, quieter, and wonderfully unhurried. We enjoyed a weekend full of family and friends. My daughter and her boyfriend even flew in from Halifax, and I took an extra day off, making it an even longer long weekend :)

I was able to step away from the phone… from notifications… from scrolling… from the constant pull of “just one more email.”

There is something incredibly restorative about pausing the noise of daily life.

Not escaping it.

Not avoiding it.

Simply stepping out of the current for a moment.

I also recently treated myself to a digital piano — something I hadn’t played in decades — and it has been an absolute joy to play again.

Sometimes the most powerful reset isn’t found in doing more, but in reconnecting with something that brings us back to ourselves.

As we move toward a very full and exciting season ahead, I am especially grateful for this pause.

Next week I’ll be attending the Denobi Awards in Portland, Oregon, followed closely by the Pacific Dental Conference in Vancouver, BC. I’m looking forward to connecting with our western colleagues — and for those attending PDC, I would love to see you at The Sharpening Lab.

We then head into the DHPO Retreat (Dental Hygiene Practitioners of Ontario) on March 27–28 — an inspiring event that brings together dental hygienists from Ontario and across the country who are running, or exploring, their own practices. rdhu is proud to be a sponsor, including the morning stretch session to help everyone start the day grounded and energized.

If you are planning to attend, you can use RDHU.26 for a registration discount! See below for the link to register.

Before the momentum builds, I encourage you to create your own pause — whatever that looks like for you.

A morning walk.
A few moments of meditation.
A hobby you’ve missed.
A quiet cup of coffee or tea before the day begins.
Music. Movement. Stillness.

Something that reconnects you to you.

Because when we pause with intention, we return with clarity, energy, and renewed purpose.

And that benefits not only ourselves — but everyone we care for and serve.

Wishing you a grounded and energized week ahead.

Warmly,

Kathleen
