Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Aisling Whitaker, and our conversation stayed with me long after it ended.

One of the things I enjoy most about what I do is connecting with dental professionals who are passionate about making a difference—not only for their patients, but for their teams and the profession as a whole. Aisling is one of those people.

Originally from Ireland, Dr. Aisling Whitaker is a dentist, entrepreneur, lifelong learner, and advocate for helping dental practices thrive. With a background in psychology and a clinical focus on airway health in children, she brings a unique perspective to both patient care and practice leadership.

No matter what topic we're discussing, what always stands out to me is Aisling's focus on implementation. She understands that learning is important, but results happen when ideas are put into action.

Aisling is a strong believer in investing in her team and regularly encourages team members to participate in continuing education opportunities. She values lifelong learning and supports her team in pursuing courses, conferences, webinars, and professional development activities that help them grow both personally and professionally. I have always appreciated her support of rdhu programs as part of that commitment to learning.

What I appreciate most is that learning doesn't end when the course is over. There is a plan for how new ideas will be brought back, shared, assigned, and integrated into daily practice. Her team members are given leadership roles to help implement new concepts and initiatives, creating accountability and helping ensure that learning translates into meaningful change.

Another thing that makes Aisling unique is her passion for technology and systems. She is continually looking for ways to solve problems, streamline processes, and create efficiencies that support both dental professionals and the patients they serve.

Rather than simply identifying challenges within our profession, she has taken action by creating solutions.

Through Dental Hive, Aisling has developed a growing digital platform designed to support dental teams with onboarding resources, training videos, continuing education opportunities, scheduling tools, job postings, a marketplace, and resources to help practices grow and succeed. There is even a weekly dental Wordle called Buzzwords! What I find really impressive is that she has been actively involved in developing and evolving the platform herself, continually adding new features based on the needs of the dental community.

Her work reflects something I often talk about in my courses, presentations, and publications:

Learning is important, but implementation is where change happens.

Thank you, Aisling, for your commitment to innovation, leadership, and supporting dental teams across Canada and beyond.

If you would like to learn more about Dental Hive, explore the platform, or subscribe to a free membership, I encourage you to take a look. There are also additional membership options available for dental practices, organizations, and vendors looking to connect with and support the dental community.

As we wrapped up our conversation yesterday, I was reminded that some of the most meaningful work we do is often connected to our own personal experiences. Aisling has a personal story about how she found her way into airway-focused care, and I hope to invite her to join us on a future episode of The RDH View to share that journey.

My question for you this week:

When you attend a course, read an article, or listen to a podcast, what systems do you have in place to ensure that what you learn gets implemented?

One small action this week could make all the difference :)

Warmly,

Kathleen
