How Are You Showing Up?

I’ve had two truly inspiring conversations with fellow dental hygienists recently that really stuck with me. At the same time, I’ve been reading some posts in private Facebook groups from 'Anonymous' members who are struggling—burnout, frustration, feeling stuck. So today, I wanted to share some positivity and perspective that might help shift your mindset and get you back On Track.

Let’s start with Joe Siegfried, our Myofunctional Therapy presenter. Every time I speak with Joe, I’m struck by his abundance mindset. He never complains about what he lacks—he simply finds a way. Whether it's investing in a second or third camera setup to improve care, or traveling abroad to attend multiple conferences each year, Joe is always saying yes to growth and yes to opportunity.

Then there’s Luminita Dica, who proudly gave me a tour of her independent dental hygiene practice. I shared a bit about Lumi last Tuesday. From her up-to-date technology to her exciting plans to expand, you can feel her passion. She’s in control of her day—she designs her day. She’s fully invested in herself, her patients, and her professional journey.

And then, there’s the other end of the spectrum. I’ve read posts from dental hygienists who feel like they’re running on empty. They can’t get the time they need, are forced to use outdated or broken equipment (one even shared that the head of a prophy angle came off mid-use!), and feel powerless to change their situation.

I get it. It’s tough out there.

But here’s the good news: you’re not stuck. You do have the power to shift. To reset. To take a new path.

So let me ask you:

  • How are you showing up at work? Are you presenting yourself as a confident professional—or just getting through the day? Are you showing up and playing full-out?
  • Are you investing in yourself? Whether it’s upgrading your instruments, enrolling in a new program, or attending events that fuel your passion—those steps matter.
  • Are you bringing problems… or solutions? Every workplace has challenges. What matters is how you show up to face them. Don’t just present a problem—bring a solution.
  • Are you leading conversations with your team? Could you schedule a meeting to set goals that get everyone excited?
  • Are you focusing on what’s missing, or what’s possible? The lens you choose makes all the difference.

This week, take a moment to reflect. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. Small shifts lead to big momentum.

And if you ever want to have a conversation to talk it through—I’m here.

Warmly,

Kathleen
