How quickly things have changed since our last On-Track Tuesday!

In the midst of unpredictable and challenging times, there are certain aspects of our lives we can focus on. Family times and sustaining meaningful relationships…things that we often don’t always have enough time for in our busy lives. The balance between our personal and professional lives is always one that commands our ongoing attention.

I wanted to share a few things with you because when you self-isolate, it can feel very lonely and quite frankly, scary. We need to remain close to people. As humans, we are social beings and when we are put in ‘social distancing’ it can make us feel lonely and disconnected. We need to make an extra effort to stay connected during these times.

What we are doing with our rdhu team, and I hope it might be something for you to consider with your team, is we are getting online together through Zoom every morning to do a ‘check-in’. It’s not texting. It’s not an email. It’s actually getting online to see each other…to ‘check-in’. How is everyone feeling? What is new with the family, new news?

Would you consider doing this with your team? Something to think about. What can you do to feel connected and take advantage of these times during our ‘home isolation days’ that will help your practice?

Perhaps now is the time to review your current practice guidelines and protocols to ensure you are current and in compliance. When you return to practice, you can be empowered to institute any changes that you feel are required.

Perhaps you don’t have a Sleep Apnea Screening Protocol in place. Or a system for CAMBRA. Perhaps it is time to update your Oral Cancer Screening Protocol or your Periodontal Disease Management.

Looking ahead to when you are back in the office and having something positive to focus on will help you get through these days. Even if you take an hour or two a day.

So many of us are glued to our phones, Social Media and the News. You need to take time for something positive to help keep you driving forward.

That, plus take at least one or two walks a day. Keep up with your fitness and feed your body with the right fuel. We can help you feed your mind with some good learning and connection.

1. We will be offering a LIVE online series that we will share with you via email shortly:

Cambra, Sleep Apnea Screening Protocol, Periodontal Disease Management and Oral Cancer Screening…

2. This email is going out to our Ontario RDH’s, we are going to go LIVE tomorrow with Gina Bailey from the ODHA to discuss Employment Issues in light of the COVID-19. If you have any questions, please email info@rdhu.ca and we hope to be able to address them as best as possible. We are going LIVE at 2pm and will send an email out tomorrow morning (Wednesday, March 18) with the link regarding this.

3. Beth Parkes and myself will be offering a 3 day 1-hour Live Online Quality Assurance Workshop so we can help those who would like to work on their QA Records. We have received many texts, emails, and Social Media messages from people working on their SMILE portal. Even from members who are submitting in 2023! Please find info below to register.

2020 matters to those whose numbers end in 5 and 7, 4 and 9 & 3 and 8.

Let’s do what we can now during this time.

Please stay safe. My heart is with you and your families.

Kindest regards,

Kathleen
